New Harmony offering Judi Betts Workshop in June

June 15-19, 2015 we are hosting a five day watercolor workshop with Judi Betts (aws, nws).  The Hoosier Salon New Harmony Gallery is excited to host this workshop, “Fun with Xtraordinary Watercolor Techniques–Painting and Journaling”.  If you are familiar with Judi and her work, you know she is the nationally and internationally known queen of “sparkle” in watercolor.  She is a fantastic instructor and a super person, funny and full of life.   She will be sharing her secrets of how to bring luminosity into your paintings and the wonderful world of watercolor journaling.  She has taught over 425 workshops and has authored 2 books.  Check out her work and resume at http://www.judibettsaws.com/.

New Harmony 9th Annual Member Exhibit “The Good Ole Summertime”

9th Annual Member Exhibit

“THE GOOD OLE SUMMERTIME”

This is the 9th Annual “The Good Ole Summertime” Member Exhibit at the Hoosier Salon New Harmony Gallery. The exhibit is on display from August 14 through September 14 thanks to the generosity of our sponsors Robert and Ann Scarafia. Artist members of the Hoosier Salon were invited to participate by entering up to two pieces with the assurance that at least one piece would be exhibited as long as it met the criteria put forth in the prospectus. This year, thirty-nine artists are participating, presenting a variety of mediums in 2D and 3D artwork. The exhibit is not juried for acceptance, but is juried for awards, including the $600 Fifth Third Bank “Best of Show” Award. The recipient was Kathryn J. Houghton of Crawfordsville, IN. The presentation of awards took place on Saturday, August 23 during the New Harmony Summer Art & Antique Stroll with fifteen artists receiving awards.

Jurors: Kathryn Waters and Karen Walker
“Each year, we (the judges) have become increasingly impressed as the artists participating in the Hoosier Salon Member Exhibit have grown in artistic strength and versatility. The 2014 exhibit displays many mediums with a willingness of the artists to take more risks as they venture into new mediums. The entries demonstrate a high level of skill and technique. Overall, it provides a wonderful example of our member artist’ talent. It has been a pleasure to act as judges.”

The Hoosier Salon thanks our two judges for their time and expertise. Both ladies have been members of our Hoosier Salon Advisory Board since 2006. We value their input in many ways. Each brings a unique perspective to the judging process. Waters is a Professor of Art, Director of the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries, and Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana. Walker is the former Public Relations & Advertising Director for Deaconess Health System and brings her expertise for what makes a visual statement and as a collector of fine art.
