July 16 – 19, 2018 / 4-Day Drawing Workshop / 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET
Sherrie McGraw Workshop
Figure Drawing: The Artist’s Foundation
Workshop in C.W. Mundy’s Studio at the Stutz Business and Art Center in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sherrie McGraw, renowned author of The Language of Drawing, will conduct a drawing-only workshop this summer. McGraw is a highly sought-after instructor in the most basic knowledge needed to develop into a good draftsman. Class demonstrations and individual instruction will guide students through the knowledge that constitutes “knowing how to draw.”
Throughout history, the classic nude has ushered artists into a different way of understanding the world through the language of line. Once students begin to “see,” the world transforms into a rich source of structure, symmetry, planes and dimension. Students will explore gesture drawing as the distillation of a model’s action and they will also discover the joy of capturing reality with a minimum of line. As well, longer poses will allow for a more in-depth study of the human form, which in turn will accelerate the editing process in good draftsmanship.
All skill levels are welcome but students will benefit most from the class if they familiarize themselves with McGraw’s book prior to the week. Although it is currently out of print, it is in eBook form at www.brightlightfineart.com.
July 20 – 23, 2018 / 4-Day Oil Painting Workshop / 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET
Sherrie McGraw Workshop
Painting with an Idea: The Secret in All Great Art
Workshop for the Hoosier Art Salon to be held at the Stutz Business and Art Center in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.
In this workshop, students will learn what it means to go beyond painting objects to capturing a visual idea. There will be still lifes and models available to explore painting concepts that can give paintings more visual impact and universal appeal.
With over 40 years teaching experience, McGraw will open students eyes to visual ideas that elevate realistic painting from mere illustration to the mystery and wonder of great works of art. Having taught both painting and drawing at the famous Art Students League of New York and art institutions across the country, she has experience inspiring both beginner and seasoned professional to the next level of development.
All skill levels are welcome but students will benefit most from the class if they familiarize themselves with David A Leffel’s book—An Artist Teaches—prior to the week. Although it is currently out of print, it is in eBook form at www.brightlightfineart.com.
Price $825 (includes model fee)
