Still Life with Flowers Workshop
with Pam Newell, AIS NOAPS
Transform your work by painting from life with a still life. If you’ve always painted from photos, you are missing the elements that can make your work sing. Once you’ve mastered painting from life, all your work will be enhanced and feel more real – even when working from photos.
Capture the gesture and essence of flowers in a still life. With this beautiful, but fleeting subject. – Discover how light creates form, and more.
Bring: your favorite still life objects and avase, container, pitcher, draping cloths, fruit, fresh flowers and foliage (cut or in pots)- whatever inspires you to paint! You will learn how to set up and light your objects to create a mood to make an exceptional painting. We will discuss the principals of fine art as inspired by the Masters; how to begin a painting, focal point, values, transparent vs. opaque color, hard and soft edges, brushwork, palette knife and surface texture.
There will be an instructor demo and lots of individual attention. Lights, stands and backdrop stations and some props and flowers are provided. Materials list are found on my website: www.pnewellart.com. This workshop is open to all skill levels and styles; some drawing or painting experience is recommended. The main emphasis is on oil painting; however, all media are welcome. Students provide all workshop materials. PLEASE BRING A PORTABLE OR TABLETOP EASEL.
