All levels welcome, basic knowledge of oil and equipment a necessity.
Dennis will help you realize your potential as an artist by going beyond materials and techniques. Creator of the Perrin Method, Dennis’s teaching covers not only the technical aspects of painting, but the thought processes behind painting with special emphasis on the power of belief and intention. The principle subject will be floral still life in oil but may also include some outdoor painting in a garden or with a figure in the scene. Be prepared to explore the possibilities.
QIANG HUANG / Still Life in Oil
All levels are welcome, but a previous experience in mixing color is necessary. Demonstrations and instruction will be in oil and it is suggested that students use this medium.

Medium: Demonstrations and instruction will be in oil. Oil is preferred but students may use other mediums
Level: Beginner to advanced.
Description: Qiang’s approach to still life painting will be demonstrated with particular focus on creating dramatic set ups by observing the light distribution, and using bold and loose strokes to create a powerful and accurate representation on canvas. Using demonstrations and individual assistance, Qiang will explain his process of creating energetic paintings by manipulating values, colors, edges, and brushwork. Personal attention will be given to each student according to his or her current skill level and personal goals in art. The workshop is designed for indoor practice with live settings.
Qiang Huang (pronounced as Chong Wong) came from China. He has studied art from multiple master artists like David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw. His paintings show remarkable accuracy and expressive brush strokes. Since 2004 his paintings have been selected continuously for Oil Painters of America’s National Juried Exhibitions. Qiang is a signature member of OPA. His work has been featured in American Artist, Southwest Art, and Artist Magazine.
ELIZABETH ROBBINS / Painting Light and Shadow with Emotion
Beginner to advanced. Demonstrations and instruction will be in oil. Oils preferred but students may use other mediums.
In the workshop, I will take each day to discuss the fundamentals of painting, ie: composition, values, temperature, edges, texture, and color. Students will gain a better understanding about how to create dimension with light and shadow and how to orchestrate a painting that has rhythm. Each day a new fundamental will be discussed and will build upon the last. I will do daily demonstrations.
PORTRAIT FROM LIFE WORKSHOPS
CAROLYN ANDERSON / Interpreting Reality
A portrait workshop using models. Intermediate to advanced painters; demonstrations and instruction will be in oil; students may work in other mediums.
LINE, SHAPE, VALUE, COLOR AND EDGES: Learn to interpret and see visual information in a new and interesting way. Carolyn’s teaching is based on years of experience explaining how to interpret edges, color temperature, and shapes, and learning how to recognize patterns and make comparisons. This workshop is for those artists who are interested in enhancing their painting skills, and understanding how to approach a painting in a more creative way. Although we willbe working from live models, the instruction is applicable to any subject matter. There will be demonstrations, a slide presentation, and as much individual attention as possible. Instruction will be in oils and the class is primarily for the intermediate to advanced painter.
TINA GARRETT / Portraiture Starting Methods for Beginners Workshop
A portrait workshop using models. All levels welcome; demonstrations and instruction will be in oil.
All levels welcome to participate in this comprehensive study of oil painting starting methods with ARC Associate Living Master, Tina Garrett, including, open grisaille, accurate color wash, and Tina’s favorite, selective start. Students will gain understanding of form, value, temperature, edges and composition as well as color mixing, as Tina demonstrates how to control your palette for accurate values and color. Tina will share insights on posing the model, lighting and painting materials. Tina will demonstrate from the live model each morning and assist artists individually each afternoon and discuss painting from photographs vs. painting from life.
PLEIN AIR WORKSHOPS
ROGER DALE BROWN / Fresh Brush of Spring Plein Air/Studio Workshop
Two days of plein air painting on location and two days in the studio. Intermediate thru advanced painters; oil and acrylic mediums accepted, instructor will demonstrate in oil.
Skill level – intermediate thru advanced. This class will be valuable for the artist that wants to create beautiful studio paintings using the information that is gathered on location. The information gathered will include your plein air sketches, photographs, drawings and notes. You will have two days of painting on location with instruction on how to create a good composition, capture correct value and how to gather information important to take back to the studio. Roger will show you how to use that information and expand on it to create studio paintings. You will learn studio techniques that will give your work another push towards excellence.
MARC HANSON / Beyond the Basics
A plein air landscape workshop. Intermediate thru advanced painters, working in oil, pastel or acrylic.
My workshop is designed to help intermediate to advanced students working in oils or acrylics to explore more advanced considerations in how a painting is conceived and executed. It won’t be about painting specifics,i.e., I won’t be teaching any “how too”s, including “How to paint like me”, but will be demonstrating, talking and teaching about how to be more personal in your approach to ‘your’ painting, exploring your temperament and individual skills, to be more direct in each painting’s statement. That includes exploring skills in developing a solid Concept, and the use of Color, Composition, Value, Edge work and Drawing, to communicate as effectively as you can with each painting. We will concentrate on Concept and it’s purpose in making paintings that are specific to the idea that they portray. The days will consist of Demonstration, Discussion and Student Practice. I demonstrate and explain everything that I ask students to do. This will be followed by a lot of time for individual painting time, and time for me to meet with each student at their easel for discussion and personal one on one critique. At the end of the workshop there will be a group meeting where we will discuss and critique a selection of the students’ work.
