Jeff Legg ““The Conceptual Still Life” ~~Four Day Workshop. Beginner to advanced are welcome. Demonstrations and instruction will be in oil. Students may work in oil or alkyd oil. |
Breathe life into your still life with a more spontaneous approach in this 4 day workshop. Learn how to think about painting “light” instead of objects. I will show you my thought process in setting up a concept and executing it by going directly to paint, without fussing with tedious pre-drawings. I will teach and demonstrate my painting methods each day from start to finish with commentary throughout the process. There will be open discussion of my material choices, prop selection, paint application, values, colors choices and lighting of the subject. You will receive one on one critiques with special attention to your particular needs.

PLEIN AIR WORKSHOPS
Roger Dale Brown “The Process of Replicating a Mood in Plein-Air” ~~Four Day Workshop. A plein air landscape workshop; Intermediate thru Advanced. |
This class will start with a slide show, where Roger will discuss the philosophy, science and techniques of Masters, to help you understand how important a good foundation is for any good painting. The key to painting on location is to stay in control of your painting from the beginning. We will also learn about simplifying a scene when painting on location. You will learn to build the scene with oils in an Alla Prima style by using layering technique’s to create and evoke the vibration and mood of the day. Be prepared for painting exercises, demo’s, critiques and a lot of paint time on location in beautiful New Harmony.
Bring one plein-air painting from home for private critique—not too large.

Camille Przewodek “The Benefits of Experimentation”~~Four Day Workshop. All levels welcome, basic knowledge of oil and equipment a necessity. |
Good color, or color that expresses the light key of nature, can make even the most mundane subject matter strikingly beautiful. This plein air workshop introduces a way of seeing and using color to paint the landscape—by capturing the time and type of day through accurate color relationships. The focus will be on structuring the landscape—what is important to include and what to leave out—as well as relating large notes of color to express the big masses, light key, and aerial perspective. Camille will do demonstrations throughout the workshop. She is an acknowledged authority on color and one of a handful of contemporary exponents of the Hensche/Hawthorne approach to capturing light in painting. Students are encouraged to bring original artwork or photos and talk to Camille during the week about their vision as artists.
