Lori Putnam “Searching for the Character of Light and Place”~~Plein Air Landscapes.
Limit of 18 students
The key to growth in the studio begins by working often and observing life outdoors. Plein air painters will search for clues in the scene to capture the distinct character of a place, and gain insight into the ways different types of light convey time of day, weather, and season. To benefit most from this workshop, previous plein air expe-rience is strongly suggested. This workshop includes lectures and discussions, slide presentations, demonstrations, individual painting time, personal instruction, and group exercises. Demonstrations will be in oil, but artists who are experienced in other mediums are welcome. Students are required to have their own plein air equipment. (Alternative studio classroom may be substituted in the case of inclem-ent weather)

Dawn Whitelaw “Searching for the Character of Light and Likeness” ~~Head studies from life.
Limit of 14 students
Painting from a live model is an effective way to improve skills in painting any subject matter. In this workshop you will receive instruction on drawing, design, proper value and color use, and edge control. There will be particular emphasis on capturing the quality of light and character of the model. To benefit most from this class, an artist should have some drawing skills and a working knowledge of the medium they are using. The instruction is designed for painters using oil paint, but the class is open to artists who are experienced using acrylic or pastel as well. The class will consist of power point presentations, lectures, demos, as well as individual in-struction.

Janet Rogers Workshop “Expressive Watercolor with Flowers, Faces and Figures”, October 12-15
Class Description: FOR ALL LEVELS. Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this dynamic workshop—progressing to faces and figures. Through a series of “fun” painting exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach—giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive. We will move into painting people, learning how to express translucent flesh tones, covering many features while focusing on the gesture of the person. We will be working primarily with photographs but will have a chance to work from a model. Some students may choose to paint just portraits or just flowers. Our goal will be to “see” in new ways—bringing “life” and interpretation to flowers and people, and discover intuitive color and design.
Cost of workshops -$425 for members of the Hoosier Salon, $450 non-members
